In general, permits are designed to protect sidewalks, streets, and existing drainage against incidental damage caused by contractors performing work on your property. Some ordinances and attendant permits promote the preservation of a neighborhood aesthetic for the purposes of preserving property values and insuring that we have an attractive city in which to live. More importantly, permits help to protect the health and safety of the community’s citizens.
Permits are required for the following:
• New construction (room additions, new garages, etc.)
• New or replacement fencing
• New or replacement driveways and driveway aprons
• Tree removal
• Use of park for large gatherings/events (family reunions, weddings, children's parties, etc.)
Most permits require a deposit. At the conclusion of the work or activity, and after inspection to insure that there has been no damage to public property and that the activity was in compliance with the appropriate ordinance, the deposit will be refunded.
